Painting again

Today is the first day I've painted since our furnace died. So, I dove right in and painted two daily size paintings. These are both 8 x 8 inches, H2O Oils on recycled, handmade canvas board. I made the boards using scrap matboard, raw canvas and gesso. I also made custom backing paper for them! I started out with 12 boards for now. That gives me a couple weeks without having to make more, unless I paint two a day! I also have a 10 inch square canvas prepared and ready to paint! Time is getting short for my show in March, so I'm trying to finish as many as possible.

Today I'm going to a meeting at my community center about a proposed mural on a wall that overlooks the neighborhood park and the city of Albuquerque. The neighborhood association asked me to be on the committee and help with the process. I'm excited but at the same time a little unsure as there will be a lot of city politics involved I'm sure. I would like to involve the high school art students and any other neighborhood kids that are interested. I think it will happen as this is supposed to be a community project because of the funding being used. We shall see!

Cool technique with making the canvas boards!

Love the new paintings and it looks like you have been keeping busy. I think sitting on the board will be a good experience. Isn't there politics everywhere? I know I've experienced them at my daughter's school where it should all be neutral.

I love what you are doing, painting wise and recyling wise.

I hope the project for the neighborhood won't have too much politics and will let kids get involved like you want. Best Wishes on that! I think you are brave to take that on. Good luck!

Thanks all for your comments.

I love to use every piece of scrap materials that I can, I feel guilty every time I fill a trash can!

The meeting went well, they were very open to my ideas! I'm looking forward to the project. I will be sitting on the artist selection committee! I have wanted to get into public art for some time, so it's going to be great to be able to learn all about it first hand.

I like your Spokes of the Sun picture - epsecially as its winter here and I am really missing the sunshine.

Good to hear about the recycling and community project too.

Thanks Philip! I've been missing the sun too, I guess that's why I've been painting more suns than flowers lately! It looks like we may have a sunny day today though, yeah!

I love the purple/yellow/orange color combination, and I really love the way you've re-used materials for the canvas board! It must feel good to be painting again.

I hate wasting anything too... I don't like to throw away a single drop of wax when I'm making candles, so I have some really ugly scrap candles that I use around the house. :)
