Besides painting my rear off this week, I'm working on designing and building frames for my daily journal paintings. I am using raw lumber (1 x 3") to create my own frame moulding which will ultimately result in handmade, handpainted frames to compliment my smaller, 8 inch square paintings on canvas board. I will post photos once I get some completed. I have just finished putting the frames together and now I'm sanding and gessoing them to get ready for painting.
Earlier today I started my largest spiral abstract painting to date. It is on a 40 inch square gallery wrapped canvas. I've picked a color combo of yellow, red and brown. One of my favorite combos for sure. This painting WILL be finished for the Gallery show in Gallup August 9th. I'm thinking only positively on this one. I got quite a late start on painting it, but I will not give up until it's complete. I guess it's true that I have always worked best under pressure.
In addition to all that, I have to restock my matted prints to get ready for another weekend at the Tijeras Art Market. I just love that place! If you haven't been there and you get the chance, you should definitely check it out! The shady trees, the mountain breeze and of course the art! Also, there is always live music to enjoy too!
I will try to get some photos posted by the end of the week, although I can't promise anything with all I have going on!

Summertime and the living's busy!
Seems I can't get caught up these days. Lots going on!
Painting everyday to get ready for a gallery show in August at the House of Lyndon, Gallup, NM.
Getting stocked for the New Mexico State Fair in September. I have a booth again this year in the Enchantment Arts and Crafts section. This year, instead of being tucked behind a building and across from the petting zoo, we will be out on the main street of the fairgrounds! I will also have a booth to myself this year as last year I shared a booth with an artist friend. So I have more space to fill! The fun part about this year is that my husband will be out there with me everyday since he is now a full time performer. He's working on getting some bookings for the Fair, but otherwise will be with me at the booth, playing his guitar and selling cds.
This weekend(July 14,15th) and two weekends a month I will be out at the Tijeras Art Market. I will post the dates as soon as I know them for sure. This week I will be sharing the booth with my artist friend, Josephine Brionez de Flores
Saturday, July 21st I will be back out at the Neighborhood Market in downtown Albuquerque. At the corner of Gold and 8th, hours are 10am to 4pm.
I've designed and started to build frames for my small daily paintings. They are made from raw lumber into 3 inch wide painted wood frames. I'm planning to paint each frame to go with the painting it is intended for. The painting will extend out into the frame and turn an 8 inch painting into a 14 inch framed painting.
I am preparing my next instrument for painting. Not sure when I will start the actual painting, still have to gesso it. This one isn't a guitar, it's a Russian instrument called a Balalika(spelled wrong I'm sure!). I love the shape and I can hardly wait to paint it! I have had an awesome response on the guitar and want to have a whole row of painted instruments to show eventually.
On a personal note, I've been getting stuff moved around at the house and moved into my studio still. My middle son returned this morning from 6 months at his dad's in Arkansas. I am so happy to have him back! I now have all my sons living at home again!

Daily Journal paintings
Elated(click to buy)Here are yesterday's and today's daily journal paintings. Trying to finish up as much of these as possible to take with me to Gallup on Saturday. Spoke with the gallery owner yesterday and he wants me to bring all I have, big and small. I hope he realizes what he's getting himself into! Not a lot of time to write as I still have many preparations to make for the show and only 3 days left to do it all! I plan to take my camera with me to the show so I can post photos for everyone that can't make it in person.

Procrastination
So, once again, procrastination has snuck up on me and I have less than two weeks to finish everything up for the March gallery show in Gallup. I don't have a lot to get done, but I'm stressing just the same. I'm excited about this show, but at the same time a little aprehensive. This is the first gallery show I've had in years! Mainly because I have been in a transistion period in my art. I didn't want to show my new abstracts before I was ready. Now that I've been showing them online and getting positive feedback, I think I'm ready to officially introduce my new style in the gallery world!
One of my goals this year is to get back into a gallery in Santa Fe. I used to sell my prints in a gallery on the Plaza many years ago when I was still Paula Beck. Now that I have my new body of work, I'm ready to get back into Santa Fe. Things have changed since the 90s when I last sold there, rents have gone up, galleries have moved away from the plaza to open up on Canyon Road. I've grown as an artist too and I don't feel as intimidated by the Santa Fe galleries as I once was. So, that is another thing I have to finish this week, my catalog of works. Can't remember if I've written about this here before, but I'm creating a cd rom of my new works. Things sure have changed since I started out and everyone wanted slides!!
So, if I'm not around much in the next couple weeks, you now know why!! I will try to post some photos of the show too, once it is hung. The opening is on March 10th, so if anyone is in Gallup, NM, please come by and see it in person! :)

Couldn't do it!

Stay away from my blog that is! So, I'm weak! Kidding, but seriously, I wanted to build up some suspense for my new paintings. I can't do it, I miss the feedback! So, anyway, the top one is the finished larger canvas I mentioned a few days ago, haven't named it yet. It is a 20 inch square h2o oils on canvas. The second one is a much larger painting still in progress. It's a 36 inch square h20 oils on canvas. I plan to make this one the center piece for my gallery show coming up. Still a ways to go to finish it. I'm really loving working larger, may have to do more!
I have been able to get quite a bit of work done this week, with cutting myself off from the internet. Of course I've still been surfing around every morning and today I spent way too much time online, making up for lost time, right??? Yeah, right!!
Anyway, hope everyone is well, happy and feeling creative today!

Busy at work
I don't have a photo to post today. I came to the realization the other day that I am WAY behind on my to do list for January! I'm still painting everyday, in fact, I'm working on a large canvas right now. I have a show in March to get ready for and I'm thinking about waiting to reveal the new paintings until then. At least the larger ones.
As far as work goes, I am working on a catalog for 2007 of all my new work. I'm still contemplating whether or not to axe my older work to make my catalog more cohesive. So, heads up, my landscape prints and paintings may not be available for sale after January is over. The Beck prints will for sure be gone from my shop in February. If you were thinking of purchasing any, best do it before January is over.
Another heads up, my prices will be going up in February. I have no choice in this matter, my supplies have gone up and after doing my books for 2006 I have discovered that I'm not making any profit! The price hike won't be huge, but if you are one that likes to save money, get 'em now before the price goes up!
2007 is the year that I go back to selling wholesale to shops. While I love selling directly to the public, I need to get my work out in the public eye more. So, if you know of a shop that would be a good fit for my art, or you have a shop that would be a good fit, please contact me.
So, because of all the work I have to do, I will not be blogging as often. My 2007 catalog of prints will be listed in my Etsy shop in February and I will blog more about that then.
